BCH401 Chemical Reaction Engineering-I Unit-Wise Syllabus
Official AKTU syllabus (effective 2023-24) — 5 units.
Unit 1: Hours Rate Equations
Hours Rate Equations: Rate equation, elementary and non-elementary reactions, theories of reaction rate and temperature dependency. Design equation for constant and variable volume batch reactors, analysis of experimental kinetics data-Integral and differential analysis. Half-life method for order of reaction.
Unit 2: Design of Reactors
Design of Reactors: Design of continuous reactors – stirred tank and tubular flow 8 reactor, comparison of reactors. Multiple reactor system for plug flow and mixed flow reactors. Determining best system for given conversion, recycle reactors, autocatalytic reactors.
Unit 3: Design of Multiple Reactors
Design of Multiple Reactors: Design of reactors for multiple reactions, quantitative treatment of product distribution, consecutive - parallel and mixed reactions, factors 9 affecting choice, optimum yield, conversion, selectivity, reactivity and yield. Two step irreversible series-parallel reactions.
Unit 4
Non – isothermal Reactors: Heat of reactions at various temperatures, temperature conversion reaction for different reaction types, Non-isothermal homogeneous 9 reactor systems-adiabatic reactors. Heat effect in adiabatic operations, operations of batch and Continuous reactors –optimum temperature progression.
Unit 5: Non-Ideal Reactors
Non-Ideal Reactors: The residence time distribution as a factor of performance; 8 experimental method for finding E, residence time functions and relationship between E and F curve. Basic models for non-ideal flow, conversion in non-ideal reactors.
