BCT303 Textile Fibres Unit-Wise Syllabus

Unit 1: Unit (1)
Unit (1): Total lectures required = 10 Introduction: Basic definitions related to textile fibres, Classification of textile fibres, Essential & desirable properties of textile fibres, Advantages & disadvantages of Natural and Manmade fibres, Concepts of Molecular weight, Degree of polymerization, Orientation and Crystallinity, Characteristics of fibre forming polymer.
Unit 2: Unit (2) · Jute
Unit (2): Total lectures required = 10 Cotton: Cultivation and harvesting, Varieties of cotton, Chemical and morphological structure, Physical and chemical properties of cotton fibre, Formation of hydrocellulose and oxy-cellulose. Jute: Cultivation, Retting and extraction process, Chemical and morphological structure, Physical and chemical properties of jute fibre.
Unit 3: Unit (3) · Silk
Unit (3): Total lectures required = 10 Wool: Types of wool and it’s grading, Chemical and morphological structure, Physical & chemical properties of wool fibre. Silk: Types of silk and its production, Chemical and morphological structure of silk, Silk weighting, Degumming of silk, Physical & chemical properties of silk.
Unit 4: Unit (4)
Unit (4): Total lectures required = 10 Introduction to Melt Spinning, Chemistry of production of Polyester fibre, Chemistry of production of Nylon 6 and Nylon 66 fibre.
Unit 5: Unit (5)
Unit (5): Total lectures required = 8 Introduction to Solution Spinning, Chemistry of production of Viscose fibre, Chemistry of production of Poly-Acylonitrile fibre, Introduction to spandex and lyocell fibre.
