Unit 1
Introduction to Garments, Apparel Industry: Structure of Industry, Various Departments in the Garment Industry and their Functions , Process Flow chart, Classification of Garments, Raw Material for Garment Manufacturing, Selection of garments (Gender, Events, Festivals, occasions, profession, sessions, community), Anthropometry, Fitting Theory (8-Head &10-Head), Body Measurement.
Unit 2
Pattern Making; Types of Paper Pattern, Pattern Making Tools. Principles of Pattern Drafting, Commercial Pattern, Pattern Draping, Flat Pattern Technique, Pattern Grading, Types of Grading Systems, Fabric Spreading and Cutting, Marker, Marker Parameters, Types of Markers, Marker Planning, Methods of Marker Planning, Marker Efficiency, Spreading: Types, Methods, Cutting: Preparation for Cutting, Preparation of Cut works in cutting room
Unit 3: Seams and Stitches
Sewing Aids and equipments (Measuring tools, Drafting tools, marking tools, spreading table, cutting tools and table. Selection of Needles, threads, and fabrics –Types, properties, & classification. Seams and Stitches: Classification of Seam their use, Seam Quality, Types of Stitches: (Chain, Hand, Lock, Multi- Thread Chain, Over-Edge Chain, Covering Chain), Components of garments (Collar, Yoke, Cuff, Sleeve, Placket, Pockets, Pleat & Dart) and their types.
Unit 4: Sewing Machine
Sewing Machine: Classifications, Types, Parts and Functions, Single Needle Lock Stitch Machine, Double Needle Lock Stitch Machine, Special Sewing Machines- (Over lock Machine, Flat lock machine, Buttonhole Sewing Machines, Button Sewing Machine, Feed of Arm Sewing Machine, Blind Stitch Machine, Computerized Embroidery Machine).
Unit 5
Apparel Supporting Materials (Linings, Interlinings, Interfacing, Shoulder Pads, Waddings and Fusing), Trims and Accessories: its objectives and uses-(Buttons, Zippers, Hooks-Eye, Hook-loop (Velcro), Elastics, Laces, Labels, Shanks and Rivets) Care labeling for apparel, pressing equipment, packing, Garment defects and remedies. Concepts of Recent Development in Seamless Garment.
