Unit 1: Speed Frame

Speed Frame: Objectives, functions of different machine components and high drafting system, roving twist in speed frame, winding principles and equations related to bobbin leading and flyer leading, Differential motions, building motion, cone profile, numerical problems, norms, performance assessment. drafting systems, common defects in roving packages, their causes and remedies, Developments in speed frame

Unit 2: Ring Frame

Ring Frame: Function and mode of operation of ring frame, role of drafting system, yarn guiding devices, forces acting between ring and traveler, yarn tension variation, balloon tension at maximum diameter, tasks of traveller, limiting speed, classification, form of traveler, traveler mass and material, different ring-traveller combinations, winding process, cop structure, spinning geometry, causes of end breaks, numerical problems, norms, performance assessment, Compact spinning- its types and advantages,

Unit 3: Ring Frame & Doubling

Ring Frame & Doubling: Concept of twist multiplier and yarn contraction, Factors affecting twist in a yarn, Building mechanism, Importance of spinning geometry and its elements, Control of yarn tension in ring frame, Mechanism of package formation. Limitation of ring spinning and factors responsible for loss in efficiency, Objective of doubling, Different systems of doubling, Study of ring doubler and TFO (Two for one) machine, Calculations related to yarn doubling, Fancy yarns, sewing threads, Core spun yarn and other specialty yarns, Objective of reeling, Types of reeling, Construction and working of reel, Yarn bundling.

Unit 4: Rotor Spinning

Rotor Spinning: Causes leading to the advent of unconventional systems of spinning; Basic Principle of Open-end Spinning systems; Variables for classification of unconventional methods of yarn production; Different Classifications of unconventional methods of yarn production; Principle involved in each group of classification. Introduction to Rotor Spinning Principle and Engineering design of various parts of rotor spinning, effect of rotor machine variables and fibre properties on the properties of rotor spun yarns. Limitations of rotor spinning, advances in rotor spinning.

Unit 5: Other Non-Conventional Spinning Systems · Outcomes

Other Non-Conventional Spinning Systems: Study of other spinning systems, viz. Friction and Air-jet etc. Mechanism of yarn formation, Structure, properties and end-uses of yarns spun on these systems, Various developments in these systems Electrostatic, air-vortex, Wrap, Twist less, Self-twist and other non-conventional methods of yarn Structure, properties and end-uses of these yarns, Potential and limitations of various spinning technologies. Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, the students will be able: - 1. To know about the working of Speed Frame Machine. 2. To know about the working of Ring Frame Machine. 3. To know about the Doubling process and working of TFO. 4. To know about working of Rotor spinning system. 5. To know about the working of Non- Conventional Spinning System.
